Me and my partner arrived at short notice with little knowledge of the hotel and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were really friendly and helpful, really professional too. The quality of service and the complimentary items in the room deserve mentioning, they were a much higher quality than I expected it to be for a 3* establishment. The newly refurbished bar and restaurant was spectacular - can’t wait to see the bedrooms when they’re done! The rooms were really comfortable, clean and spacious. We would definitely come again!
Fantastic night away, ended up eating three times due to the great range of dishes. All of which were cooked to perfection. Me and my partner were so spoilt for choice that we ended up having 4 starters and ended up mopping up the plates. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for a night away or food in the Peak District!
We went for a Saturday evening meal. It was the first time we’ve been to The Maynard (newly revamped) and we will definitely be returning. The food was very good, with some interesting vegetarian options, and Abi and Kate who served us were both friendly and professional. The restaurant is smart, the environment relaxed, with some nice views of the garden and beyond. All in all, a very nice evening.
We have enjoyed eating her on several occasions. The food is always excellent. A wonderful choice of wines at sensible prices. Service which is superlative! Friendly. Fast. Attentive. Congratulations to Abbey & Sarah who made our visit extra special.
We spent two nights at the Maynard and enjoyed every minute. Our room was spacious, with a new bathroom and the biggest bed I've ever seen which was as comfortable as it looked. The wifi was good which makes a change! Breakfast was excellent. We ate in the restaurant both nights as we liked the food and there was plenty of choice. The Maynard has been revamped and everything has been done to a high standard with great attention to detail. What really made the difference though is the team - everyone we dealt with was friendly, helpful and good at their job and made our stay something to remember.
During the current lockdown, The Maynard are providing a takeaway service, with the cuisine theme changing each week. The Sunday Roast was cooked to perfection, and this weekends Katsu Curry was incredibly flavoursome. The Maynard takeaway is becoming our weekend ritual, and we’re already looking forward to next weekends burger offering. Also, NHS staff currently eat for free, which is a touching gesture of thanks. Highly recommended!
We have really enjoyed the takeaway menus prepared by The Maynard during Lockdown. The Thai curry and the Katsu curry were full of flavour and the Sunday roasts were both generous and delicious. A highlight on V E Day was a beautifully presented afternoon tea! These takeaways are a very welcome treat, well priced,excellent service and very good food! Thank you!
During the Covid 19 lockdown my family and I enjoyed the burgers to take away tonight. It was superb, and the beef brisket in particular was delicious! The collection process was so well organised and efficient, and it is excellent value for money with huge portions! We’re very excited to come and eat in person when we are allowed to!
Popped in for Sunday lunch with some friends and found the staff attentive, the food cooked beautifully and setting splendid - Rob and his team have certainly made a stunning impact at the Maynard and we look forward to a return visit. Definitely recommend the Roast Beef!!

We had a really lovely three nights at the Maynard, with dinner each evening to save driving, and we couldn't have been happier. The welcome was so warm, even for our boisterous dog, and the food terrific. We booked a fairly low-end room but it was extremely comfortable - next time we'll try to book one with a view, since it is so stunning. We made a good tour of the menu and the food was without exception delicious, beautifully prepared and presented. Just lovely! We'll do our very best to be back soon.

Last week my husband and I went to the Maynard to celebrate our second wedding anniversary (we got married there) and had a wonderful time! The staff were really friendly and attentive,particularly our waitress Kate, and the food was wonderful! I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to treat themselves to a meal here!
We stopped here for a family lunch after a hike in Pedley Gorge. The food and service was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, and service was prompt. The menu has some excellent choices and all our meals were of a high standard of presentation and of a good quality. The desserts were also excellent and between us we had a Vegan Cheesecake (very oaty!) a pistachio tiramisu and a chocolate brownie - all of which were fantastic. The decor is smart and modern, we ate inside as it was raining but the garden also looked good with plenty of seating.
Very enjoyable lunch at the Maynard. Decent weather (for a change) meant we could sit outside in a lovely garden setting. Food good, excellent beer and wine choice, all served by Siobhan who looked after us excellently.
This was our second time visiting the Maynard for a meal and both times have been fantastic. Food was delicious and the service mainly from Kate but from all staff was great! Would highly recommend and will be visiting more.

I cannot say that I have been before but I have driven past a good few times, I had seen the place advertised on Instagram and I thought it looked amazing so as I had planned a day out for a walk and paddle at Padley Gorge I thought there would be no better way to start the day than a good breakfast. The service was prompt and really friendly, The food was gorgeous - This was defo the best black pudding I have had with a breakfast! The decor and atmosphere is really welcoming and chic. I cannot wait to visit again!
Had Sunday lunch here after not being for about 10 years. It has really changed! The menu was excellent with a wide variety of choice, so something for everybody. The service was attentive and pleasing, being served by Abi & Ellie. We liked everything we were served with... a lot! My only complaint is that the lack of soft furnishings makes the noise level high. We were seated in the upper level of the restaurant.
Decided to try out this restaurant having not been to The Maynard Arms for a long time. Our servers - Lexi and Sam - were welcoming, friendly and receptive to our needs. We'd definitely recommend the sirloin steak - fantastic flavour, & cooked exactly as we'd requested. The atmosphere was bright and airy with a good vibe. In spite of the driving rain and wind, the view of the Hope Valley from our seats was spectacular. Well worth visiting.
We enjoyed a very pleasant evening meal in the comfortable dining room, with great views over the garden and surrounding valley. Menu choices were interesting and varied, and the food that arrived was excellent with generous portions and great flavours. Staff were helpful and efficient; our main waitress, Lexi, gave us helpful advice about menu choices, remaining attentive without being instrusive throughout the evening. Covid 19 guidelines were in place so we felt safe and relaxed. We look forward to coming again!
The staff and management were attentive, friendly and helpful. We celebrated our daughters 18th with close family and friends, the Maynard provided a fantastic brunch for us all. They respected social distancing and gently reminded members of our group to adhere to the guidance too. The tables were distanced into bubbles but we felt together. Thank you helping make this celebration an event to remember in these strange times.

Whilst staying in Grindleford, as a family we visited the Maynard twice. The first time for food and drinks and the second for drinks in the beer garden with entertainment. Both times we were served by Kate, a fantastic waitress- no request was too big for her and she was very attentive and friendly. The food was brilliant and drinks were perfect. The entertainment on the Sunday (x factor singer and pianist) were brilliant, we didn’t want to leave! Will definitely return if we ever visit Grindleford again.
came to grindleford for a country walk and came across this restaurant/ hotel. the staff were fantastic, really friendly and attentive. the best beer garden we’ve ever been to, views of the peaks and the fantastic pub building. the Sunday roast was perfect, couldn’t fault it! will defiantly be returning
I have not stayed at the Maynard but will be very soon. I called to arrange for a bottle of wine to be put in my daughters room on her arrival for her birthday. I spoke with a charming lady called Charlotte who went above and beyond what seems to be the norm these days. She even offered to put a personal note with the bottle and ensure that any cards which had been arranged would also be in her room. Well done Charlotte, this is why it is called hospitality!!

We were staying at The Maynard and decided to eat at the hotel restaurant every evening as the food was exceptional quality and the menu was extensive enough for us to try something new each evening. The restaurant also caters for vegan/vegetarian and gluten free diners.

We are here as part of a stay at the hotel and could not fault the food or service. Both were excellent.
We ate here all 3 nights of our stay and found dishes that appealed to us enough to have something different each evening. My wife found the Sea Bream and Samphire Risotto sublime and the most tender fillet steak and had it twice. My Belly Pork Croquette was stuffed full of tasty meat. The handmade Brisket and Cheese Burger was one of the nicest I have had for a while.
Had read about the "New" Maynard locally following its purchase and refurbishment earlier in the year. We had been intending to go for lunch at the legendary Grindleford Station Café but when we got there discovered they didn't take cards and we didn't have any cash on us so we continued on our Padley Gorge/Longshaw walk and then drove to the Maynard for lunch. My lambs liver and mash with a side of red cabbage was excellent and my wife really enjoyed her steak baguette with a side of sweet potato fries. Shame after all the effort the new owners have put in that they now have to close for a month.
What can I say about this amazing place? Rob has brought the village a venue like no other. Atmosphere amazing. Staff fantastic. Love this place.
Whilst living locally have only recently stumbled upon the Maynard following Rob's recent purchase. Have not yet had the opportunity to eat in the restaurant (booking had to be cancelled due to lockdown rules). However, have had a number of takeaway meals in the last few weeks including Sunday lunch. All have been excellent. Great quality and expertly cooked. The Maynard, under Rob and staff, is a great addition to the area and we look forward to eating in the restaurant on a regular basis once we are through these challenging times.
We had a take out meal to finish cooking at home. 3 courses plus chocolates! Not only was it delicious, sushi and duck breast for starters, teriyaki salmon for mains and chocolate fondant and pear crumble but the gluten free dishes were clearly marked, which is so reassuring. Thanks for making such a treat during lockdown.
We were highly delighted with the 3 course takeaway and complimentary chocolates. All courses were really delicious with minimal work needed to complete the preparations at home. The menu provided a good choice and we settled on the sushi starter, beef Wellington main and chocolate fondant dessert. We were not disappointed. In fact, very impressed! The complimentary chocolates were the ‘icing on the cake’ as they were homemade and just so pretty. It was a real treat and an experience we would happily repeat in future years. We are now looking forward to visiting the restaurant when it is able to reopen.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch sat outside in the sunshine. It was great to see so many people out enjoying themselves after such a long lockdown. The staff were excellent (Arron served us). It was well organised & the food was cooked to perfection. I can recommend the roast pork, it came with all of the trimmings and was delicious. Six of us enjoyed a memorable first venture post lockdown and what better way to celebrate than to experience a truly excellent lunch at this beautifully refurbished hotel. The menu was expansive and imaginative, offering a wide choice for every taste. My husband and I chose twice baked cheese soufflé followed by rabbit wrapped in parma ham - both were absolutely delicious and very well presented. Special thanks go to our two delightful waitresses Kate and Abbie who were super efficient and personable. We shall certainly return!

We had a lovely famiy meal sitting in the sun. The moules was outstanding. Skinny fries done to perfection. And great to have normal menus and service rather than Instagraming a robot app in Bolivia
Visited the Maynard on Sunday for the first time since its reopening. The decor is really lovely and the food was very good. The place was extremely busy due to the wonderful Bank Holiday weather, but there were plenty of staff who were very attentive without being overbearing. Thanks in particular to George & Kate.
We really enjoyed our visit and hope to return. We arrived by bicycle in the afternoon and were able to order a meal. We were also able to keep our bikes safe inside the pub. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the meals seemed reasonably priced.
We drove from Derby to come to the Maynard and it was absolutely worth it. The starting sharer was delicious and the home made chips were perfectly cooked. Every member of staff we interacted with was a delight to speak to and incredibly helpful. The atmosphere in the restaurant was just right with the tables spaced far enough part to feel private. We can’t wait to come back.
Had a very pleasant lunch here sat in the sunny garden. Staff friendly and helpful. Lunch was excellent and faultless. Not the cheapest but I don’t mind paying for quality. Toilets modern and clean. Inside dining area looked really good. Social distancing and sanitising good. Recommended

When we pulled up to The Maynard, we were overwhelmed by how beautiful the building and the scenery were! Set in the stunning Peak District hills, we had the perfect weather for our special occasion meal here. The food was delicious, with different and interesting flavour combinations and presented beautifully. I would 100% recommend dining here for a special occasion.
We were there as part of a wedding group. Food and facilities were great, although some parts in the bar are getting a little worn looking, however the service was amazing! Nothing too much trouble and the staff were always friendly and smiling. Can't remember having such good service!

Popped in for a quick drink with a friend, lovely staff and top class service. Kate took care of us outside and recommended a sharer dessert which we couldn’t turn down. When the weather became cold and the midges came out we asked her to transfer inside, to which she was so accommodating and kind. She’s a star ⭐️
We ate in the bar area, the service was friendly and the food was delicious. My son loved his fish goujons and my fish was cooked perfectly. The sharing platter we had for a starter was amazing! A good selection of drinks and the waiter was very knowledgeable.

Great, friendly service on a busy evening. Lovely views of the mist descending over the hills. We enjoyed our food - dessert was the best, we had the selection of mini desserts. Tip: Go before your booking time to allow time to park - they're changing parking rules soon. We got a space quickly but it was busy.

We called in on chance and was pleasantly surprised by how well we were treated from start to finish. They found us a table for 6 people, which surprised me, as we didn’t book. This place is beautiful and charming without being pretentious, the decor and furnishings all fit with the setting. The staff were friendly and attentive and the menu drinks and quality of food were absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend and, will be returning again very soon. Our first visit to the Maynard in several years and we were really impressed with the refurbishment The staff were lovely, very welcoming and attentive. I have to give a special mention to Travis who looked after us so well, nothing was too much trouble for him. The food was delicious, especially the scallop starter which is amazing! I had the monkfish curry for my main which I would definitely order again. The four of us had a really wonderful evening and look forward to retuning soon.

Visited for afternoon tea on Valentines Day. The classic afternoon tea was done to perfection (as they say)! The balance of the different items was just right. Sandwiches and scones may be commonplace things but these were of the highest professional standard - just right and absolutely delicious! Cakes and desert elements excellent too. Staff welcoming, friendly, attentive and a pleasure to meet! I'm not one to give credit where it is not due, or for simply delivering what was paid for! But The Maynard really does deserve 5 out of 5! If I didn't live so close I'd be checking in for a short break overnight stay! Will visit again...
Tucked into an absolutely delicious full English breakfast this morning. The food was cooked beautifully with first class ingredients. From the minute we walked through the door we were made to feel so welcome, everyone was absolutely charming......hospitality at it's very best! As we had a dog with us we sat in the bar which was beautifully decorated and so relaxed and cosy we could have stopped there all day. Our dog gives it the thumbs up too as she was totally chilled and got lot lots of fuss. A total gem.....can't wait to go again!
Could not recommend The Maynard enough. The location is outstanding, the rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished. The restaurant serves amazing food but above all the staff who work there are exceptional. To the point where it would be unfair to single out one single employee as they were all so helpful and warm and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay thanks to everyone who made us feel special
We booked afternoon tea for my mothers birthday. The food was lovely. We also ordered a birthday cake which the chef made and it was delicious. You get an individual cake tier which was a nice touch. The staff were very attentive. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend The Maynard. Please note you do need to book afternoon tea in advance
The Maynard is a real culinary jewel, in our opinion. It was in walking distance of our airbnb, so a no brainer for our first night, and looked good on tripadvisor etc ... but it was SERIOUSLY good! We all really loved all our courses, which, tbh, is unusual...scallops, pheasant, steak, brownies... all fab, but the absolute standout was the venison ravioli! .. and of course the gourmand dessert selection - which saves you from having to make a difficult decision ... and also ... you didn't really have a full dessert at all!! ;-) . But must also mention the wonderful service - so friendly and welcoming and Jess was a star! Hopefully we will be back to this area and won't hesitate to return. Many thanks.

It is difficult to put into words our thanks for all that you (Soraya) and your wonderful team have done to make our daughter and her new husband's wedding such a fabulous day. It seemed as though every single member of the hotel staff had one single aim and that was to make it a day we would never forget. Words fail me to describe just how good Rob and his entire team were for this amazing day/weekend! With all rooms booked for guests from Friday to Sunday and 128 people for a full sit down reception of the very highest quality. We stayed from Fri-Sun for my best friends wedding and cant fault the Maynard. From a delicious private dinner on the Friday, being up & ready for our 6am start on the wedding day and lasting us through until a 3am finish (sorry about that!), as well as hosting the sunday event the staff were nothing but polite, conscientious and there to answer our every request. The actual wedding day was perfect, the room looked incredible and the food was outstanding. The team were non stop and made everything look seamless. Rooms also were lovely - comfortable beds, fluffy towels and our own coffee machines which were very much needed! Would 100% recommend anyone to host a wedding or any other kind of big event here. Came with my Dad for lunch today. Really friendly staff! Chris, Ella and Kate were very helpful on our visit. We had the sardines, muscles, Brazilian cheese bread, gazpacho and the seabass. Absolutely incredible, will definitely recommend!

Can't thank Soraya and the Maynard staff enough. We got married there in May and it was just perfect. They could not have done enough to make sure we were happy and had the wedding we wanted. Every single staff member from the wedding team to the bar staff to the receptionists were friendly, polite and very helpful. Rooms were comfortable and food was absolutely incredible. I particularly liked the variety of choice available for vegetarians and vegans. On top of all that it is in a particularly beautiful part of the world. We went for a pre-wedding walk and it was absolutely stunning. Already planning a return trip.

We got married at The Maynard and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Soraya and the team were absolutely amazing from the moment we booked. The day ran seamlessly and we credit a lot of that to Soraya’s organisation! She is just brilliant. It’s hard to pick out any particular highlights as everything was perfect, but we had comments from a lot of our guests on the quality of the food and how great all the staff were on the day. I have been to the Maynard many times and it is constantly excellent. The food is so good, there is a lovely garden, and the staff are lovely. My favourites are the duck and the sandwiches. A wonderful place to eat, I will continue to be a regular.

Stayed for 2 nights B&B in June. The hotel has clearly been recently refurbished. The decor, carpets, furniture etc in excellent condition, contemporary bathroom was super clean. Great atmosphere in the bar and restaurant (which has super views of the Grindleford hills). We ate in the hotel both nights and can recommend the Pork Belly and Sea Bass in particular. We really enjoyed the cheeseboard of local cheeses (thanks Kim for being a lovely, friendly, efficient waitress). We'll be back!!!
Parking is good but be sure to scan the qr code and enter your reg no. The Maynard is a lovely hotel in a beautiful Peak District setting the views are stunning. The atmosphere is very good with a nice bar, lovely dinning room and plenty of garden seating. The welcome was warm and drinks order was prompt and the staff very helpful. The afternoon tea was delicate and beautiful very tasty and very well presented. A very good venue for any occasion I think.
We came for a meal at the end of a weekend in Grindleford for my hen party. I booked a while ago so preordered online and all the emails and communication was fantastic. The Maynard itself is beautiful and done to a really high standard. The food was lovely, well presented and tasty. I also wanted to give a mention to Abbie who looked after us who was just so lovely and really made it special. Massive thank you and she is a credit to the Maynard. We got married at The Maynard at the beginning of May and they were absolutely amazing! They couldn’t do enough for us to make sure we had the best day and so many people have commented on what a lovely time they had. The staff are LOVELY and everything has just been refurbished so the rooms and bar are gorgeous! I was a bit poorly on the day and everyone was so flexible and understanding and made it all so easy. Have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel. It had been recommended by friends and it did not disappoint. Our room was comfortable, clean and extremely well appointed. Food delicious. Every member of the hotel team were very friendly and efficient, offering excellent service always with a smile. Will definitely be making a return visit.

Great evening sat in the garden with the last of the sun, what an incredible spot. We had some drinks and nibbles and then came into the bar to have main courses. 2 of us had the beef brisket burgers and the mussels. All of us enjoyed, big thanks to Evie, Kim and Dan for looking after us! We will be back!
Stayed here for 1 night with the pooch. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Food was great. Comfortable room. Only slight issue was our bedroom was at the front which faced the road. It was quite noisy at night...especially if you need to open windows because of the heat. Would stay again!
Such a wonderful hotel in such a nice scenic location. From the moment we arrived and entered the hotel we felt a great vibe and the hotel reception staff were so friendly, warm and hospitable. Room was amazing with stunning views, bathroom was clean and very nice. Had a great nights sleep and then to be presented with such a nice breakfast delivered to our room. Amazing hotel. Our room Sir Don Bradman had a bath in the actual bedroom and TV popped from the bed. Service is second to none and clearly trained to the highest standard. Food in the evening was delicious. A great hotel and restaurant with great views. Met the general manager and she was kind and helpful. Can’t recommend this enough.

Went here for afternoon tea which was delicious. Three types of sandwiches, scone, jam, cream and three mini desserts with a choice of tea or bubbly. Sat in the room overlooking the garden. Relaxed and elegant surroundings. Our waiter, Travis was really friendly and professional too. A really lovely afternoon!
A popular wedding venue, the Maynard is also an excellent place to visit for a meal. There is an imaginative menu, and you can enjoy your meal in a really beautiful setting ( In summer the sheltered garden with its views of the hills around is a fantastic place for a leisurely lunch.) The staff are friendly and efficient, and customer service was outstanding. Not cheap, but worth paying a bit extra for such a great all-round experience

We visited last Sunday for the 1st time and was immediately impressed when we walked in. Such a beautiful bar and restaurant. We were a little early for our table so got our drinks and went through to the garden. We didn’t know there was live music on which was excellent and really set the ambiance. After booking our wedding at the Maynard, we were contacted regularly to check on progress. The evening before myself and family were very well looked after in the restaurant. The morning of the wedding staff members were busy setting up the room as well as taking time to chat with me and frequently visiting my room checking in on progress. Been to the Maynard Arms today for a birthday Sunday lunch. The surroundings are lovely both internally and externally. Was served by Kim and Charlie both extremely friendly and helpful excellent service. Food was excellent and hot. Made a birthday cake for us which was lovely. Would definitely go back and would recommend it.
Went to the Maynard for a midweek family dinner. Had a lovely table for 7 in the bar. Food was great although there was a mix up in the order but they put it right which took a while and meant we ate separately but no dramas. It’s pub food and beer so all good.
Imaginative tasty menu.Standard ingredients blended well together producing different unusual dishes.Portions are substantial so we shared two desserts between the four of us ! Very friendly and attentive service . Will return in the future. Highly recommended.

Had an excellent meal with 5 friends on 20th Aug. The duck was particularly good, as was the cheesecake for desert. As always, the service was very good, in this case from Travis. There's a good choice of excellent beers. The Thornbridge Sequoia went down well.
Had a lovely dinner with some friends at The Maynard today. We were shown to a table overlooking the garden, which has a pretty good view of the surrounding countryside. All the staff were very friendly and attentive and couldn't do enough for you, especially Kim and Trevor. For the main, you were spoiled for a choice, however I was recommended by one of my friends to have a filet stake, and was amazing if I say so (person who are not a huge fan of stakes)... For dessert, two of us had a Grindelford Gourmand, a selection of " miniature" desserts that includes two scopes of ice cream (mango and coconut), a cheesecake, chocolate brown, pina colada meringues and my favourite the mint panna cotta... We dined at the restaurant whilst on holiday in Derbyshire and enjoyed the meal so much we had to return on another evening. Everything was delicious with the menu being an interesting mixture of traditional and innovative choices. Between us we tried the steaks,sea bass, chicken, lamb, gourmand dessert and cheesecake . Every dish was excellent and all served up by the cheerful an enthusiastic young staff team of Kim and Travis. We have all resolved to visit again and stay at the hotel. The setting is also beautiful especially the garden which has views across the surrounding countryside.
Came recently for a family meal to celebrate A'level results and a driving test pass. Our food was delicious thanks to Victoria's recommendations, who made us very welcome. I visited The Maynard for the first time last week for drinks and light food while catching up with friends. The gardens were lovely, the staff were very welcoming and the food & drinks were delicious. Special thank you to Rachel for the attentive service and ensuring we had a nice time. With living nearby, I will definitely be coming back and would recommend it to anyone as they offer a whole selection of foods for any occasion.
Saturday evening in garden late afternoon sun. Dog friendly. Very accommodating even though we hadn't booked. Food was good and staff efficient and friendly even with a wedding on at same time. Especially Kim who was checking on making sure everything was ok.

Yet another perfect family meal at The Maynard, Grindleford. Even though there was a live music event and a wedding, the service was outstanding. The food was amazingsuch good quality, lovely sized portions and wonderful flavours at a reasonable price- you can tell it is all fresh and the chefs are outstanding g. Went to the Maynard for a drink and they o look see if it would be nice for Christmas party. 30% off the menu so couldn’t say no never ever tasted a crumble like it the beef was so nice sorry can’t remember the names of food but it was incredible. Great service lovely friendly staff this is a MUST
A wonderful stay at The Maynard! With booking the room, the staff were so attentive and responded quickly. Upon arriving at the hotel we were then treated to a free upgrade - never had this kind of amazing service before! The room was outstanding, level of cleanliness and comfort was beyond my expectations! The restaurant food in the evening was so delicious and all of the staff that served us were lovely. We are already working out how soon we can return!

We stayed for two nights in Jeanes and really enjoyed the quirky decor and thoughtful touches like the beautiful drinks and the USB ports. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were all super friendly. Victoria was so welcoming. The breakfast was exquisite. We ate all our meals in the restaurant as the food quality was superb and reasonably priced, why search for somewhere else! Thank you for my birthday chocolates and note! We will definitely return soon for another relaxing break.
Just a to say a huge thank you to The Maynard for our lovely evening Friday. Evie and Travis were very attentive for our meal and Olivia was overseeing the Restaurant. The staff are all so professional and on hand but not pushy. The meal from the new menu was wonderful..The short rib was so soft and tender and my wife’s Seabass was also excellent. We’ll definitely be back for some more of the same many thanks.
We decided to visit Chatsworth House and stay overnight somewhere in the Peaks for a midweek treat. The Maynard was perfect. Lovely staff, spacious, comfortable room, atmospheric pub area, excellent food and dog friendly too, Very well priced with the addition of a discount on their new Autumn menu. Would recommend this place to anyone.

What a beautiful meal. The Maynard is a very smartly set up restaurant within a hotel. We weren't staying at the hotel but booking was very easy online. The meal was beautiful. Starters- cheese soufle / rabbit and mustard in pastry Mains - sea bass / venison ravioli Dessert - Cappuccino torte / cheese board Service was very friendly and efficient by clearly well trained staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely go again next time I'm in the stunning Peak District. Highly recommended.

We had our wedding at the Maynard on 15th October. I cannot recommend them enough! The staff are incredible, Soraya Charlotte Liv and the rest of the team couldn’t of done anymore for us. Nothing was too much trouble. We had 120 guests in the day and all of them were in awe of how smoothly things went. The food was amazing the hotel is beautiful and our rooms/views were just stunning. A perfect day all round. The next morning it was my days 60th and they accommodated a big group breakfast and an area for family to visit and celebrate his birthday! We can’t thank them enough for everything. Just in love with this place and we already can’t wait to come back to visit. Thanks guys we love you! Jemma & Connor x
This hotel is in a great location for exploring the surrounding area. I booked at the last minute, and so happy that I did as the room was very comfortable. Dinner was also really nice. The atmosphere and food presentation were among the best during my trip through the Peak District.
Fantastic family reunion dinner, with excellent service from Kim and Charlie. We had a big crowd, and it’s not easy serving so many people, but the food was excellent and the team looking after us did a great job. Hadn’t been here for a while - great to see it in such good hands.
The meal was fantastic. I had sea bass and it was delicious. I took my friend and I don’t think she realised how nice the meal was going to be and great value for money. I love the mini desserts for two. What a great offering as gets people having pudding when they haven’t got much room left! Thanks for the cheerful friendly service. Just as good as last time
i planned a day out in the Peak District for a friend and I finishing up with a meal at the Maynard. I had looked it up on the internet and viewed the menu which I thought was very different from the average establishment and quite reasonably priced. I was not to be disappointed, the food was fantastic, staff courteous, friendly and professional. Cannot recommend highly enough!! Only down side was the 55 mile drive home!
Excellent evening meal in the lovely refurbished restaurant. Food at The Maynard is at an all-time high, having been a regualr visitor to the Hotel for the past 35 years. Delicious and innovative autumn/winter menu, following on from a mouth-watering summer one. We've eaten in the restaurant and lovely gardens several times this year, and nenver been disappointed. Our family visitors last night were very complimentary too.
Recently stayed for our second visit. This time we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and on check in received a unexpected upgrade to a suite which was a really lovely surprise and was amazing. Went here for a meal. The food was excellent. Amazing fish and vegetables. Fantastic selection of local ales and gin. Great to eat here if you are coeliac as lots of gluten free availability for meals. The managing director is coeliac. They even have draft gluten free ale. Service very good. Nice atmosphere.
What an incredible place! The staff are beyond friendly, the views are beautiful and the food is stunning! Dog friendly aswel which was a bonus for us, you wouldn’t think it’s a dog friendly place with how clean the hotel is. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you for an amazing stay!
A beautiful hotel, the room and bed (Fleetwood) were so quiet and comfortable and the dinner on the Saturday evening was just delicious so compliments to the chef. The staff were all so helpful and a credit to the hotel. We will come again

Very lovely one-night stay, with a snug double and a twin room . The staff really went out of their way to get everything right for us, the service is professional yet personal. The rooms were very nice, very clean and very comfortable. Breakfast had varied choices as well as the traditional English breakfast, it was well cooked, hot and tasty. We had been looking forward to the Sunday roast for dinner, but unfortunately they had run out of that and several other dishes. But we enjoyed what we did have, we would definitely return
Me and husband stayed here last night as part of a midweek November deal. We were really impressed with the hotel, a stunning building with so much character, delish food and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We have visited both The Maynard and The George now and both times our stays have been fantastic, we have said that we will have to make it a yearly getaway as a treat.
Looking for somewhere for a few days break can be hit and miss, this time we hit lucky with The Maynard. The room was excellent, hotel location was brilliant and we ate both nights in the restaurant and could not fault the food: in choice, quality and value for money. Add on to this the friendliness of all the staff we met, it's certainly a hotel I'd recommend and one we will visit again if we are in the area.

We stayed for my birthday on Sunday 4th December. We had a really lovely time Having lunch in the bar area and dinner in the restaurant both of which were very good. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful Our room was lovely with views over the hills in the distance. Will definitely stay again.
A really excellent two nights stay. We did some fabulous walks directly from the hotel and left the car unused all the time we were there. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - they definitely make you feel welcome. Our room had an excellent bed, nice bright lighting (too many hotels are gloomy) and great facilities. The food in the restaurant was very enjoyable and really tasty - the fruit pastry was particularly scrumptious. We will definitely have a return visit.
2nd stay at this hotel in 5 weeks. Sister hotel to the George in Hathersage. Oh, wow, fantastic place in a lovely location! Our room was perfect. Very friendly staff. Had our evening meal there which was absolutely delicious! Well recommended. Easy access to Grindleford Station (a 3 minute walk) for Sheffield, Hope Valley, Manchester and beyond. Hotel does have free parking available on site. Looking forward to our next stay.
We stayed overnight for my daughter's wedding. The location, venue, room, food and staff were excellent. We know of venues that are more expensive but none that are better. A perfect experience for us all (including the dog!).

This is a genuinely lovely hotel, with great staff and lovely location. We stayed in a junior suite which was fantastic with a nice big bath. The breakfast was lovely and they allowed our dog to stay with us. There are some lovely walks straight from the hotel. Leah was so friendly on reception as was the young girl who served breakfast whose name I cannot remember. They couldn't do enough for us. Overall this was a 10/10 stay and we will defo stay again.
Went for Sunday lunch with a friend and three dogs in tow. Our greeter realised the table we had booked was too small and moved us to a larger table more out of the way. The food, roast beef for one and chicken for the other, was faultless. Well cooked, tasty and generally a generous serving however, the cauliflower cheese was a little stingy for two! The dessert was to die for. Enough said.

To celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary we stayed at the Maynard overnight. A comfortable spacious room, a lovely dinner, staff who were quietly attentive and efficient made for a special celebration. From the moment we arrived until we left we were made to feel very special.
We love the local area, breathtaking scenery and The Maynard is a perfect place to stay whilst visiting. The staff are all so welcoming, they add to the lovely atmosphere in such a natural way. Our room was gorgeous, we love the decor. We ate in the restaurant and again, the attentive, knowledgeable staff added to our experience of such delicious food, beautifully presented. It was a last minute treat and one we will do again no doubt.
Stayed on Boxing Day and booked last minute. The was plenty of parking and check in was simple. Our room was on the second floor, a bit of a walk through doors and different passage ways but was lovely decorating and nice to see all the wonderful decor. The room was spacious with a shower and toilet. The shower did the job but did go hot and cold a few times. All very clean, a bottle of water in the room and tea and coffee facilities. We booked a table for our evening meal, the service was excellent and food was very tasty with loads of choices for mains and a handful of desserts. If I’m in the area I would definitely dine again!
We went for Christmas lunch - a meat eater and a vegetarian. The food was outstanding and the service outstanding. We had a wonderful time - thank you so much to the fabulous staff who gave up their Christmas Day to serve us

The Maynard is a lovely, friendly hotel which has just undergone a major refurbishment program. Our room was absolutely fantastic with great views overlooking the valley. The food is of excellent quality and offers a good range of vegetarian options. We will definately be back.
This was our second visit and a special treat. The staff are excellent, very knowledgable of the menu and make you feel very welcome. A large part of the Maynard is dog friendly (which was another reason for our visit) and the food is superb. There are lots of Gluten free and Vegan options. Overall a lovely atmosphere in a stunning historic building with great decor and history. We travel quite a distance to eat here which says it all!
Had a superior, super-king room (Walker) in a very quiet location at the back of the hotel. A very comfortable, immaculately clean room, recently refurbished I imagine. Quality linen and surrounds. Excellent shower. A very fair price, including breakfast. Evening meal in the splendid dining room: excellent quality food and service. Breakfast likewise. Ideal location for walking the Derbyshire moors. Difficult to find a better place to stay! Thoroughly recommend.
2nd time here for us and again very pleased we stayed. Excellent staff, good food, lovely Hotel in a beautiful location. Shame that our room still required minor bits fixing but that won't stop us from going back again.
Stayed here for a night. The hotel is wonderful, and all the staff we met were lovely and helpful. We had dinner, and the food was delicious and a good price. We also had breakfast, which was very filling and good quality. We stayed in the Snug room, which is good for two people. Very modern styled room and bathroom was good. I have never written a review before but I had such a perfect stay I felt I needed to! The rooms were lovely and were extremely clean with lots of attention to details. We had breakfast included and it was probably one of the best breakfasts I’ve had! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed two nights and the cleaners spruced our room up which I appreciated and this Isnt usually done without asking someone! The location is beautiful and there’s lots of places to visit in a short distance. Overall this hotel is great and I will definitely be coming back! Thank you Maynard hotel
What a wonderful hotel. We visited in August 2022 and greatly enjoyed it. The hotel is stunning and our room was so comfortable. The food is delicious and the staff are very helpful and welcoming. There are also some really lovely walks on your doorstep.
